  1. My research paper will focus on the differences between the natives of Africa and African Americans. I will include the different customs and beliefs that we have taken from our ancestors. However, I will also explain how our perspectives have changed and our way of life have been modified over time. Then I will discuss why many people that are originally from Africa have a greater appreciation for the “Mother Land” than people of African descent. Towards the end of my essay, I will emphasize how important it is to know not only your national identity, but your racial identity. Gaining knowledge about ones heritage helps a person gain confidence in them self. By expanding our horizon and going against the odds, we as African Americans can and will exceed the expectations of european officials who have belittled us.

  3. The topic that I will be researching is the light skinned versus dark skinned conflict within the African American community. As a victim of this complex, friendships and relationships among my peers have been very negatively affected. I personally believe that skin color should not be a factor in your liking for someone, especially in the year of 2011. I will also be taking a look at the history of the Black Is Beautiful movement, and how it positively or negatively affected this complex within the race. In order to find out how relevant this conflict is today, I will be researching books, articles, and scholarly websites.

My topic i will be researching is the issue of tattooing and women. In my research i will answer the question of when it became acceptable for women to show their tattoo. Or is it acceptable? If it is, was it because of the sexual revolution and when exactly did it happen. While finding my sources i leaned that back in the 1800s women had them but they were very discrete. In order to find out all the answers to these questions i will be viewing videos, skimming books, articles, and papers.

  5. In my cultural analysis paper I will research the histroy of acrylic nails. I will elaborate on the components used to make the acrylic. I also will elaborate on how this concept became so popular in America. I myself regularly get acrylic added to my nails which is why I find this subject very interesting. I will use scholarly journals, websites, and books to understand this topic fully. The Chinese people are very successful in this art form because they are the creators of this craft. Many americans find this craft very usefully because it enhances their beauty.

  6. In my research I want to examine the different point of view of slaves owned by pleasant owners, verses those owned by unpleasant ones. How do their lives differ? What can make a slave owner treat some slaves different from the others? In order to answer this question I will look at the narrative of Charity Anderson, narrative of harshly treated slaves, and examine her life verses theirs, and analyze how she examined the lives of others.

    1. REVISION- The founding of America is often perceived as a period of development, declaration of liberty, and sovereignty. Initially, Native Americans were the sole inhabitants of America, before the Europeans arrived and coerced them of their lands. Historians have distorted this truth with racist language thus overlooking the sadism and ferocity that transpired during that period. Francis Jennings discloses the truth historian’s failed to acknowledge in “The Invasion of American Indians, Colonialism, and the Cant of Conquest.” The United States actions were based on the foundation of corrupted capitalistic ideologies, thus perpetuating colonialism and cultural genocide on Native Americans. Tyranny, oppression, and the carnage of a culture can either fortify it or abate it, U.S. actions which have decimated the indigenous society. ‘The United States government has historically subjugated Native Americans and continues the cycle of oppression through reservations, such as toxic waste dumps, denying proper access to health care, and forcing Native Americans to assimilate into the “appropriate dominant society.” The United States government has historically subjugated Native Americans and continues the cycle of oppression through reservations, such as toxic waste dumps, denying proper access to health care, and forcing Native Americans to assimilate into the “appropriate dominant society.” How has the American government used genocide towards the Native Americans? What about capitalism? In order to answer this question I will analyze several articles, scholarly journals, and university text. I will see the effects the Unites States has left on the Native Americans.

  7. For my cultural analysis paper, I will focus on the sad stigma of black-on -black discrimination in current history. I will have different views from those that have been affected. Also, I will research the media. For a person to model a white wedding dress, who would the editor prefer, a light skinned African female or a dark skin female? I would like to research which shade of black is more socially accepted based on jobs, relationships, pageants, etc. This research will be done by way of magazines, books, websites, and personal interviews.

  8. My research paper will focus on The Apollo Theatre. I will elaborate on how it affected the African-American community. I will also include the history of the Apollo. The people that were responsible for starting it will get recognition. I will explain how the Apollo has affected music and artists today. To find out all of this information books and magazines will be used and the internet will play a big part in my research.

  9. The 2012 phenomenon has caused plenty of beliefs that catastrophic events will happen and world will end on December 12, 2012. Some predict that we’ll be wiped out by a natural disaster like a giant tidal wave, an Earth-wide earthquake or a tremendous volcanic eruption. Others believe that on that day in December, the Earth will collide mysteriously. Even though there is no concrete evidence that the Maya, a diverse group of indigenous people who lived in present day Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and El Salvador could predict the future, they did in fact develop one of the most sophisticated civilizations and calendar in the Western Hemisphere. In order to research the historical background behind this eerie theory i will look through books and articles. How does the 2012 predictions tie in into past history?

  10. Hip hop started in the 1970 in Bronx, New York. During this time was the birth of many influential historical rappers. Hip Hop told a story and could motivate a crowd in a positive way. Artist started off beat boxing, a form of making beats with your mouth. This then derived into rapping over top of it and starting this movement. Upcoming Rappers such as Grandmaster Flash, MC Lyte, Sugar Hill Gang and plenty others took the time to make music with great meaning. They were lyrically inclined and also aware of the neighborhood and told the story of what average people wanted to say. People of this time also had a certain way to dress that was also influential and was encouraged by the rappers of that time frame. My research question is has the meaning of Hip Hop changed over time?. I will do this by analyzing different artist of each year by their lyrical content and the influence on the audience. What does their message influence our daily lives?

  11. My research paper will be on the subject of “commercialized Hip-Hop vs. underground Hip-Hop”. The topic of Hip-Hop has had its few share of arguements and many opinions have been formed about the the subject. Majority are in agreement, when they think of Hip-Hop the images of drugs, money, women and their images being degraded, and simple minded concepts and provactive messages. Now this is true most Hip-Hop music that recieves airplay is provactive and does consist of the topics i stated before. The only problem with this is that this marketing and in the society that we live in today this what the generation, (as far as the masses) choose to make a connection with so this is the music that will be to front of the Hip-Hop industry and genre. But this is not all that Hip-Hop is about, the music is a outlet to freedom of expression and the lyrical content is supposed to open up your mind. Stories are told and knowledge is shared. The issue facing this concept is that due to the media and the commercial side of the industry the whole genre of the music is being tarnished. In my paper i will go inside both the commercial and the underground content of Hip-Hop and also get artist of the past and present to share their very own opinions of the industry they are in.

  12. My cultural analysis paper will focus on comparing the first well known mass murderers and serial killers to present day mass murderers and serial killers; also their tactics and mind frame that caused them to kill the victims they chose. My research will discuss the first recognized serial killer, Jack-The-Ripper and the victims he chose in the 1800’s to the 1960’s serial killer, Charles Manson and the victims he chose to a more modernized serial killer, Robert Pickton.

  13. My cultural analysis paper will focus on different events in the 1960’s that lead up to the Atlanta student movement .The Atlanta student movement was to protest against blacks and equality. This movement was brought together by students of Morris brown, Moore house, Clark Atlanta, and Spellman. In my paper I will include the many sit-ins that were appearing at many HBCU’s around the south. And how the 1960’s was the decade of the student movements and how Atlanta student movement still impacts us today. By us I mean students and also students who attend school at the Atlanta university center today. To know that we came from such great group of determine students should help become strong minded like the alumni of the AUC.i hope my paper will bring light to how the Atlanta Student Movement help our university be the great university it is today.

  14. In May of 2010 it was announced that Arizona police would be allowed to at anytime stop a person and ask to see their I.D in order to determine if the person is an illegal immigrant. The decision made by the Arizona government caused an uproar and many conversations around the nation about the laws and treatment of immigration. An even bigger topic was brought up and put into question about how the immigrants were continuing to enter into the United States, time and time again. The one thing that many people turned to was the “All-American Canal”. A canal that is located on the southern boarder, that has helped and hurt a numerous amount of immigrants. The “All-American Canal” has been a topic of discussion for years now because of of he upkeep and safety of the canal. Time and time again government has had to deal with on whether or not to place safety tool in the canal which some say would basically be a welcoming mat for immigrants into the United States. Other believe that the damage and harm that is caused by the canal gives reason as to why they should implement safety regulations to help protect the illegal immigrants that enter the United States.
I will be doing my cultural analysis on the “All-American Canal” and immigrations issues. I will talk about the back and forth decisions that have been made about the reconstruction of the canal. I will discuss all aspects of the canal, the good and the bad of both sides. An exposing the many issues that the United States has had with immigration and continue to have.

  15. My cultural analysis paper will focus on comparing rapist from the 1500s to the present day rapist. My paper will focus on the different tactics rapist used to lure their prey and how they have become more smarter on ways to find their victims and how those ways changed over time.

  16. My cultural analysis paper will focus on Why African American’s feel that the topic of hair is so important and why African woman try to obtain “good hair”. My main focus will be the effect that the standard of “good hair” has on African American women. I will exam the history of hair, things such as what different hair styles ment in Africa and also how the term “good hair” evolved. I will be linking past hair stereotypes to the stereotypes of hair today. I feel that it is very important to know the history of the small things such as hair. It’s maybe small but the controversy behind it is huge.
